Dr. Smith was born in Colon, Panama and later moved to Brooklyn, NY. at a young age. He attended Brooklyn Tech High School, Columbia College and finished his senior residency year at Columbia Presbyterian College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1979. 

After a few stops along the way, Dr. Smith found a home in Greenville, SC. He was in private practice for Forty Years. He was a Board-Certified Internist, specializing in Hypertension and Preventive Cardiology.

Dr. Smith was an advocate for his SC community and frequently volunteered his time and expertise as founder of his nonprofit, SC Association for Preventative Medical Care Inc. He has hosted many health and athletic clinics throughout South Carolina to promote healthy living and provide preemptive health screenings.

After giving his all, his work here on earth is done. Dr. Smith passed away May 15, 2019. He is survived by his wife (Anita), five sons and five grandchildren. The family will continue his unfinished work as Dr. DES Preventive Healthcare Association, Inc. a 501(c)3 organization.
